DIATHERMY
This treatment can be used to remove or reduce the appearance of certain benign skin lesions on the face and body.
-
Diathermy uses radiofrequency energy to generate controlled heat, which is delivered to the skin through a fine probe. The heat is precisely directed to the targeted area, where it works to coagulate or cauterise the tissue.
This treatment can be used to remove or reduce the appearance of certain benign skin lesions on the face and body, including skin tags and seborrhoeic keratoses, following appropriate assessment.
-
At Wren, diathermy may be used for suitable lesions including:
• Skin tags
• Seborrhoeic keratoses
• Cherry angiomas
• Sebaceous hyperplasia
• Other benign lesions considered appropriate for treatment
Not every lesion is suitable for diathermy. If we are uncertain about a lesion or believe it requires medical assessment, treatment will not be performed and you may be referred to your GP, dermatologist or skin cancer clinic.
-
During treatment, you may feel a brief stinging or zapping sensation, along with some warmth in the area being treated. Sensation can vary depending on the location and size of the lesion. This is not a relaxing treatment, it causes some mild discomfort.
-
Your skin is now going through a healing process so go easy on your skin for 5 - 7 days.
